When Jake and I first met, he took me to his favourite places, many on Albert Road in Southsea. Full of mostly independent businesses, Albert Road is home to a range of quirky antique shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. We had our first date at the popular tea room called The Garage Lounge (also worth a visit) - so it has a few memories for us! While I used to visit Portsmouth a fair bit when I was younger, it was always either to visit the old town, the dockyard or to bargain hunt at Gunwharf Quays!
Despite not living in Portsmouth anymore, Jake is always keeping up to date with goings on and whilst that mainly constists of football, it sometimes involves things I take a little more interest in..like food!
We love trying out different places to go and eat when we visit Portsmouth, so when we heard of a new place opening up serving local & artisan products as well as coffee and lunch, we had to plan a visit! We also heard that owner Daniel Nowland had been working with Jamie Oliver for the past 9 years..did we need any other reason to try it?!
We went for lunch and had a mixture of the three salads they had on offer, which catered for vegan, vegetarian and meat based diets. While they didn’t have many grain free options, I’m sure they’d cater to requests. They source their milk from Hayling Island cows, and also have soy and cashew milk for coffee and tea. The salads were wonderful and the range of pastries and cakes left us spoilt for choice.
We loved the bright fresh space, communal dining and friendly faces and look forward to visiting again!
